We shoot here every single morning, so this guide is based on hundreds of real sessions: which colors pop against the valleys, how the flying dress actually works, what to put on your feet, and the mistakes that quietly ruin photos.
The Golden Rule: Contrast Beats Everything
Cappadocia’s landscape is a palette of soft beige, cream and rose-toned rock. Whatever you wear needs to stand out against it, not blend into it. That’s the single principle behind every recommendation below — and it’s why the most-photographed color in Cappadocia is a deep, saturated red.
Best Colors for a Cappadocia Photoshoot
- Red — the undisputed favorite. We recommend our red flying dresses to most guests: maximum contrast against the beige valleys and the soft morning sky. If you look at viral Cappadocia photos, the majority are red dresses — there’s a reason.
- Pink — soft and romantic against the rose-toned valleys; especially popular for honeymoon and proposal sessions, and one of the most requested colors in our rental collection alongside red.
- Royal blue — elegant, photographs beautifully at golden hour, and less common than red if you want your photos to feel different.
- Emerald green — striking against the warm rock tones, especially in summer light.
- Gold / warm yellow — glows at sunrise; best on clear mornings.
- White — works for bridal and proposal shoots (romantic, classic), but needs careful posing against pale rock; your photographer will position you against sky and shadow.
Colors to avoid: beige, cream, light brown and dusty pastels — they melt into the landscape — and busy patterns, which distract from the scenery. One guest, one solid bold color: that’s the formula.
The Flying Dress: How It Actually Works
The “flying” effect isn’t luck — it’s technique. The dresses have long, extra-wide trains; an assistant lifts and releases the fabric on the photographer’s count, the morning breeze does the rest, and the shot is timed mid-float. A few practical things guests are always glad to know:
- Dresses are worn over your own clothing — most guests wear a simple fitted top and leggings underneath.
- They’re designed to fit a wide range of sizes, and you can switch designs between locations if you rent more than one.
- Accessories — veils, hats, jewelry — are available on request and add a lot to close-up shots.

Shoes: The Most Underrated Decision
Viewpoints in Cappadocia mean rocky paths, dust and early-morning scrambles. Heels are a genuinely bad idea — every week we watch guests regret them. Do what experienced guests do: wear comfortable sneakers between locations, then go barefoot or switch to simple sandals for the actual shots. The dress covers your feet in most wide shots anyway.
Dress for the Cold You Don’t Expect
Photoshoots start before sunrise, and Cappadocia mornings are cold even when the day will be hot — in spring and autumn it can be near 5–10°C at 5 AM. Bring a warm jacket to wear between locations and shots; you’ll take it off for 30 seconds at a time, not for the whole session. In winter, thermal layers under the dress are completely invisible on camera and completely worth it.
For Men and Couples
Gentlemen: solid dark colors (black, navy, charcoal) or a crisp white shirt photograph best next to a bold dress — think simple, timeless, unpatterned. For couples, the strongest look is one bold color + one neutral: her red dress, his black outfit. Matching outfits sound cute but flatten the photo.
Hair, Makeup and Final Touches
Wind is part of every Cappadocia shoot — embrace loose, flowing hair (it photographs beautifully mid-breeze) or choose a secured style that won’t fight the wind for an hour. Natural, slightly stronger-than-daily makeup reads best in golden-hour light; professional hair & makeup can be added to any session on request. Small tip: bring a hair tie and lip color for touch-ups between locations.

- Spring (Apr–Jun): Perfect conditions; bring the jacket for sunrise.
- Summer (Jul–Aug): Warm even at dawn — lightest fabrics, sunglasses for between shots.

Yes — with 2–3 locations per session there’s natural time to switch looks between spots. Many guests rent two dress colors — red for the balloons, pink or blue for the valleys.
What do I wear under the flying dress?
A fitted top and leggings work perfectly; the dress goes over them and nothing shows on camera.
Do you provide the dress?
